For third day in a row, South Dakota realizes over 30 COVID-19 deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The number of COVID-19 related deaths in South Dakota surpassed 12-hundred Friday as 33 new deaths were reported. The new deaths were 12 men and 21 women. he death toll is now at 1,210. There have been 264 deaths reported in December.

New cases totaled 945 Friday with active cases decreasing by 612 to 15,622. The number of people hospitalized also decreased – down 24 to 467.

There were 269 new cases across West River counties Friday.

Pennington County reported 114 new COVID-19 cases, sending the cumulative total to 9,817 with 1,829 remaining active.

Meade County added 27 new cases, and the cumulative total rose to 1,994 with 396 active.

Lawrence County reported 26 new cases, sending the total to 2,301 with 410 remaining active.

Other new cases across West River Friday included 24 in Dewey, 17 in Todd, 12 in Oglala Lakota, 7 each in Butte and Fall River, 6 each in Custer and Lyman, 5 in Ziebach, 4 in Gregory, 3 each in Haakon, Jackson and Tripp, 2 in Perkins and one each in Corson, Stanley and Bennett counties.
