Fourteen deaths reported in Wednesday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – In the daily COVID-19 report, state health officials said there were 937 new cases with 142 of those listed as probable.

With the new cases today, the state’s active caseload rose 541 to 13,908.

The number of people of hospitalized due to the virus was up 3 today to 483.

Fourteen new COVID-19-related deaths were reported, with 2 of those out of Pennington County, where the death toll rose to 51. Three deaths were reported out of Minnehaha and three were also reported out of Turner County. Beadle, Codington, Custer, Kingsbury, Marshall and McPherson counties all reported one death each. All of the latest deaths were in persons aged 60 and older with 10 in the 80-plus age range.

Across West River, there were 317 new cases today. Pennington County added 132 of them, sending the cumulative total to 5,181 with 1,336 remaining active.

Lawrence County added 40 new cases Wednesday, sending their total to 1,155 and 385 remain active.

In Meade County, an additional 14 cases were reported, sending the cumulative total 1,090. Of those, 218 remain active.

Butte County added 11 new cases today sending the total to 451 with 190 active.

Other new cases across West River today include 32 in Oglala Lakota, 16 in Todd, 12 in Dewey, 9 in Corson, 8 in Gregory, 7 each in Custer and Tripp, 6 in Fall River, 5 in Bennett, 4 each in Ziebach and Lyman, 3 in Mellette, 2 each in Perkins, Haakon and Jackson and one in Harding counties.
