GILLETTE, Wyo. – in south central Montana, a state DNRC County Assist team has taken over command of the Short Draw Fire.
The fire started in northern Campbell County, Wyoming and burned across the state line.
Officials say an infrared (IR) flight was unable to be completed last night due to weather. Mapping of the fire is currently in progress and updated acreage will be provided later.
Progress has been made on containment and additional resources have been ordered and will continue to arrive to assist with the suppression efforts.
Damage assessments are also ongoing, with some outbuildings and primary structures reported as lost.
Evacuation orders on the Wyoming side remain in place, and residents are urged to adhere to them. Cooler temperatures are expected today, with a warming trend over the weekend.
No firefighter injuries have been reported and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
