Friday’s COVID-19 update – 20 new cases; two new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 20 new COVID-19 cases Friday, with 6 of those considered as probable.

Active cases statewide have dropped to 266 and the number of people hospitalized was down to 37 today.

Two new COVID-19 related deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,022. Both of the latest deaths were located West River – one in Todd County and the other out of Pennington County. They were two women in the 40-49 and 80-plus age range.

Across the Black Hills area, six new COVID-19 cases were reported.

Three of the new cases were in Pennington County, where two of them were considered as probable cases.

The other three were all in Lawrence County.

As for the vaccination update, as of Friday, 55% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 49.80% have completed the vaccination series.
