Friday’s COVID-19 Update – 84 new cases, one new death

PIERRE, S.D. – The State Department of Health reported 84 new cases of COVID-19 in its Friday report.

Another death was also reported, sending the state’s death toll to 10. The latest death was a resident of Jerauld County.

The cumulative total for the state is now 2,040 and there are currently 840 active cases – down 43 from yesterday.

And, there was good news in the Black Hills area of western South Dakota – along with no new cases to report, there was an additional recovery in Pennington County – meaning there are no active cases being reported by the Department of Health in the Black Hills area.

The cumulative total for Pennington County remains at 11, 9 for Lawrence County and 1 for Meade County.

Total new recoveries increased to 1,190 from 1,064 on Thursday.

Current hospitalizations increased by three to 61 compared to Thursday’s 58. Total hospitalizations were at 124, which is up from Thursday’s 119.

Minnehaha County is at 1,707 cumulative positive cases, up from Thursday’s 1,636. Minnehaha saw an additional 70 cases with neighboring Lincoln County reported 7 additional cases. Stanley County also reported their first positive COVID-19 test.
