Furnace Explosion reported in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City fire crews responded to a report of a furnace explosion Thursday morning.

In a twitter posting, Rapid City fire says stations 1 and 4 were sent to a home in the 1600 block of East Tallent Street. That is on the east end of Rapid City.

Fire officials say two individuals were reportedly working on the furnace inside the home when the explosion occurred.

The two workers were taken to a hospital for treatment and evaluation of their injuries. There was no immediate word on how serious the injuries were.

Montana Dakota Utilities and Black Hills Energy responded to check on the gas and power situation.

Rapid City Fire says there is no fire problem but damage to the home was being assessed.
