Gary Davis Gartenberg

Gary Davis Gartenberg of Rapid City, South Dakota passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on Wednesday, February 1st, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

Gary was born in Newark, New Jersey on November 29th, 1954 to Richard and Joyce Gartenberg (née Perselay). Gary spent his childhood years in Livingston, New Jersey where he grew up and graduated from Livingston High School. He then attended Colorado School of Mines, proudly earning his B.S. in Mineral Engineering.

In 1985, he married Holly Bryantt in Bismarck, North Dakota. They moved to New Jersey in 1986 with their first-born son, Eric. In 1989 their second son Alex was born.

While busy creating memories with his family, Gary started his own engineering firm, Gartenberg Associates. He established himself as an expert who was relied upon by numerous city government and private entities in the remediation of many abandoned mines throughout northern New Jersey to ensure the land was safe to use. He also spent many years working with condo associations as an expert in construction overseeing many projects. Later in his career, he utilized his years of expertise as a forensic engineer. Following his retirement in 2021, Gary and Holly moved to Rapid City for a more peaceful pace of life.

Gary will forever be remembered for his dry and sarcastic sense of humor, his willingness to provide support and guidance to anyone who needed it, and his love of sharing knowledge.

Gary is survived by his wife, Holly, his two sons, Eric (Kaitlin) Gartenberg and Alex Gartenberg. His brother, David (Jo-Bonnie) Gartenberg, sister Jill Corson (Richard Zager), sister, Jane (John) Harris, several nieces, nephews and cousins, and his mother, Joyce Gartenberg.
