GILLETTE, Wyo. – Sturgis and Gillette played a doubleheader Thursday night.
In game one, the Riders won 7-1.
Gillette scored one run in the first, then added 3 runs each in the second and third innings.
R.J. Andrewjski had 2 hits to help lead the Scoopers. Kelton Olson provided the lone R.B.I. for Sturgis. Kaden Race had 2 R.B.I. to help lead Gillette.
The Sturgis Scoopers fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Gillette in game two.
David Anderson started on the mound for the Scoopers. Gillette scored on a walk by Brody Richardson, a walk by Colson Kluck, and a walk by Matthew Newlin in the first inning.
The Scoopers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Gillette.
Gillette scored four more runs in the fifth inning. Colton Gray, Cory Schilling, Zane Eliason, and James Pelton powered the big inning with RBIs.
Mason Drube was the winning pitcher for Gillette. The bulldog surrendered one run on one hit over four innings, striking out nine. Nathaniel Zimmerschied and Schilling entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
David Anderson took the loss for Sturgis. The southpaw surrendered four runs on one hit over one inning, striking out three.
Anderson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Sturgis in hits.
Joseph Sturdevant led Gillette with two hits in four at bats.
