Girl, age 16, receives life threatening injuries in car vs semi crash

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The highway patrol and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office say two juveniles were hurt, one seriously, after a car struck a semi truck Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff’s office say they were called to the scene of the crash around 4:50 p.m. on 161st Avenue and Base Line Road south of New Underwood.

A car carrying a 16-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy had collided nearly head on with a semi truck on a slippery road.

The 16-year-old female driver sustained what authorities say were life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Monument Hospital in Rapid City. The 15-year-old male passenger suffered minor injuries.

The condition of the truck driver was not known.

The accident is under investigation.
