Girls’ State Tournaments – Wall knocks off top seeded Wolsey-Wessington to punch ticket to championship game

UNDATED – The Wall Lady Eagles exciting ride at the Girls Class B State Basketball Tournament continues as they outlasted top seeded Wolsey-Wessington Friday night to punch their ticket to Saturday’s championship game.

The two teams were close the whole way, but Wall was able to keep a small lead in the second half and escape with a 76 to 72 victory. Wall outscored Wolsey-Wessington 22-16 in the first quarter and held a 38-36 lead at halftime.

Nora Dinger led the Lady Eagles with 24 points and 7 boards. Paige Kjerstad added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Rhea Tuckers chipped in 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Wall shot 40-percent from the floor and was 12-18 on their free throws.

Wall will take on Viborg-Hurley in the title game, who beat Ethan 52-34.

At the AA Tournament in Sioux Falls, the championship will feature Sioux Falls Washington vs Pierre. Washington earned their trip to the championship game with a 46-43 win over Sioux Falls Jefferson. Pierre defeated Harrisburg 51-37 to earn their trip to the big game.

And, at the Class A Tournament, it will be top seeded Hamlin taking on second-seeded Wagner for the championship. Hamlin defeated Red Cloud 57-34 and Wagner beat Sisseton 63-45 to set up Saturday night’s title game.
