Governor visits Box Elder to discuss funding for new rec facility

BOX ELDER, S.D. – South Dakota governor Kristi Noem was in Box Elder Wednesday to stump for $3.2 million she’s asking for to build a new rec facility.

She says the new facility is needed if Ellsworth Air Force Base scores the new B-21 Raider.

Noem spoke at the VRC Metal Systems building.

Construction on the Liberty Center in Box Elder could begin as soon as March 1, 2021, if state legislators approve the money for the proejct. Total cost of the project is $12.6 million.

Box Elder Mayor Larry Larson said the Liberty Center will be the center point for the city and alsso help develop Main Street.

The South Dakota Ellsworth Development Authority partnered with Dream Design International, JLG Architect and Dean Kurtz Construction to build Liberty Center and the surrounding development in the area.
