Governor’s Open for Opportunity Tour hits Lead, Deadwood and Sturgis Wednesday

STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden visited Lead, Deadwood and Sturgis on his Open for Opportunity Tour Wednesday.

Rhoden began the day by touring Dakota Gold to highlight their economic endeavors.

“I was very impressed with the people we met with and the plan that they’ve put into place,” said Governor Rhoden, “The environmental concerns and how they’ve addressed that and how they’re working to be good stewards of land, and so it’s been very encouraging.”

Dakota Gold is a South Dakota-based responsible gold exploration and development company with a specific focus on expanding the legacy of the 145-year-old Homestake Gold Mining District.

Rhoden says he was “proud of the diverse industries across South Dakota that work hard to keep our state Open for Opportunity.” He says the state’s mining industry is one of those key sectors.

Following his visit to Dakota Gold, Rhoden toured Chubby Chipmunk hand-dipped chocolates store in Deadwood.

Rhoden also spoke about the importance of public safety to keep South Dakota Open for Opportunity at the Police Chiefs and Sheriffs Conference in Deadwood.

Rhoden wrapped up the day with a tour of the Parkwest Arms, located in the Sturgis Industrial Park.

Parkwest Arms manufactures custom rifles, highlighting South Dakota’s thriving firearms industry.
