Grass fire in Farmingdale area burns nearly 170 acres

NEW UNDERWOOD, S.D. – Another grass fire was reported on the Western South Dakota plains Saturday, as fire crews quickly responded to the blaze shortly before noon.

The New Underwood Fire District were the first to respond to a report of a wildland fire near the intersection of 160th Ave and East Highway 44.

Upon arrival Firefighters observed a wind driven fire burning in cured grass under red flag conditions and requested additional help from Pennington and Custer Counties.

The fire threatened infrastructure, and caused damage to ranching assets,

Firefighters controlled the fire to approximately 162 acres.

No injuries to Firefighters, Civilians or domestic animals were reported. Cause of the fire was under investigation.
