Gusty winds fueling pair of wildfires Thursday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Great Plains Fire Dispatch says firefighters from multiple agencies are battling a pair of wildfires in the Black Hills Thursday.

Gusty winds and dry conditions are helping spread the fires.

The McGee Fire is burning 5 miles southwest of Rapid City off Victoria Lake Road.

The fire was first reported just after midnight and has burned an approximate 46 acres. Local, state and federal resources have responded.

The fire’s cause was unknown and it remained active Thursday morning.

A second fire, the Gordon Fire, was reported at 3:30 Thursday morning. It was located a mile southwest of Sheridan Lake. Hill City Fire say they, along with the US Forest Service, were dispatched to the wind driven fast moving fire, which was contained at 13 acres.

The fire threatened multiple structures, but no homes were lost. However, one shed was burned.

The fire’s cause was unknown.
