STURGIS, S.D. – Habitat for Humanity held a Wall Raising Ceremony for one of three new homes being built in Sturgis Thursday.
The Wall Raising Ceremony is an important milestone in a Habitat partner family’s journey toward homeownership.
Partner families must show a need for affordable housing, qualify financially, put in 250 hours of sweat equity which includes working on building Habitat homes, and participate in home maintenance and personal finance classes. The raising of the walls is a tangible result of their hard work and signifies hope for a stable home and healthier future for their families. Qualifying families pay off their mortgages through affordable payments.
Habitat homeowners tend to stay in their homes, pay taxes, pay their mortgages, and engage with their communities. The affordable homes will have lasting impact on the Sturgis community.
