Hardrockers Roll In 5th Set; Defeat Chadron State, 3-2

RAPID CITY, S.D.  — In the final home match of the season, the South Dakota Mines Hardrocker volleyball team defeated the Chadron State College Eagles in five sets (19-25; 26-24; 22-25; 25-22; 15-4) in Goodell Gymnasium on Friday night.

In the first set the Eagles pulled away with a 25-17 win. The second set was a battle as both teams traded leads until the ‘Rockers took control and won the set 26-24. The third set was also tight, but CSC grabbed a four point led late and ended up winning 25-21. In the fourth set, the ‘Rockers trailed halfway through but finally tied up the game at 15-15.

The Hardrockers took a three-point lead only for CSC to come back and tie it up and take the lead. The ‘Rockers never quit as they grabbed the lead again and wound up winning 25-22. The Hardrockers kept the momentum in their favor starting the fifth set taking a 5-0 lead and they would never look back winning the final game 15-4.

Shyann Bastian was all over the court for the Hardrockers tonight, she ended the night with 14 kills, 23 assists, and 20 digs. Jacey Koethe added 16 kills and Lily Bartling had 12. Anna Thomas was a digging machine with 29 in the match. Kiley Metzger had 20 assists, while Koethe also led the team with six blocks.

As a team, the Hardrockers had 55 kills, 53 assists, and 89 digs. The win puts the ‘Rockers with a 5-9 overall record and 5-7 in conference.
