Health Department releases two days of COVID-19 totals Friday

PIERRE, S.D, – The Department of Health released two days worth of COVID-19 numbers Friday after not releasing a daily report on Thanksgivng.

The two day total for new cases was 2,138 with 212 of those considered probable.

The two day death total reached 39, sending the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 888. Twenty of the deaths were among those in the 80-plus age group. There were 12 in the 70-79 age group, six in the 60-69 age group and one in the 40-49 age group.

Active cases totaled 16,382 today with 569 people hospitalized. Active cases were up today while the number of people hospitalized was down.

Across West River, there were 564 new cases with Pennington County adding the most with 253.  Pennington County’s total rose to 8,375 and there are 1,763 cases still active.

Lawrence County added 59 new cases, sending their cumulative total to 1,966 with 381 remaining active.

Meade County had 48 new cases, sending their total to 1,698 with 331 still active.

Butte County added 17 new cases Friday for a total of 706 and 108 remain active.

Other new cases across West River today included 48 in Todd, 26 in Oglala Lakota, 17 each in Custer, 16 each in Dewey and Tripp, 12 in Corson, 9 in Mellette, 8 in Jackson, 7 in Perkins, 6 in Stanley, 5 each in Lyman and Gregory, 4 in Fall River, 3 in Harding, 2 in Jones and one each in Ziebach, Haakon and Bennett.

There were 5,130 new persons tested reported on Friday, which included two reporting days. The 2-day new person test-positivity rate is 41% for Friday.
