Health Department reports 425 new COVID-19 cases Saturday

STURGIS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health recorded 425 new COVID-19 cases Saturday and two new deaths were reported as well.

One of deaths was out of Lawrence County, who has seen two COVID-19 related deaths this week. The other death was reported out of Codington County. Both deaths were residents in the 80-plus age range.

Pennington County recorded the most cases West River as 53 new positive tests for COVID-19 were reported. Pennington County has a cumulative total of 1,337 cases with 382 of them remaining active. The active number of cases is up 37 over Friday.

Lawrence County had 20 new cases, giving them  210 total with 124 still active. The active caseload is up 15 over Friday.

Meade County had 18 new COVID-19 cases sending their total to 279 with 149 active. The active cases are up 9 Saturday in Meade.

Custer reported another four new cases giving them 114 total with 58 remaining active.

Other new cases West River include 2 in Fall River, and one each in Butte, Oglala Lakota, Bennett, Gregory, Tripp and Ziebach counties.  

The statewide active caseload is up 246 today to 2,428.

The number of hospitalizations, however, decreased one today to 79.

On Saturday, a total of 1,566 new persons tested were reported.
