Health officials report 11 new COVID-19 deaths Sunday as active cases continue downward trend

PIERRE, S.D. – New cases of COVID-19 totaled 391 across South Dakota Sunday with 11 new deaths reported.

The 11 new deaths send the state’s death total since the pandemic began to 1,361. There have been 415 deaths reported in December. The new deaths were 5 men and 6 women in the following age ranges: 70-79 (3) and 80+ (8).

Active cases continued their downward trend, falling 226 to 8,270.

Hospitalizations also trended downward by 20 to 345.

New cases across West River totaled 106.

Pennington County reported 51 new cases, Meade County added 2 and Lawrence County showed 17.

Active cases in all three counties are down today as well, with 1,075 in Pennington, 199 in Meade and 209 in Lawrence.

Other new case across West River Sunday included 6 in Corson, 5 each in Oglala Lakota and Tripp, 3 each in Butte, Custer and Dewey, 2 each in Fall River, Haakon, Lyman and Todd and one each in Stanley, Gregory and Jackson.
