Health officials report 564 new COVID-19 cases Monday along with three new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 564 new COVID-19 cases in their daily report – the lowest daily total since November 2nd.

Three new deaths were reported Monday, sending the state’s total to 946. There have been 531 deaths reported in November. The new deaths were two men and one woman with two in the 70-79 age range and one in the 60-69 age range. The deaths were reported in Day, Fall River and Hutchinson Counties.

Active cases increased by 254 to 17,184 and the number of people hospitalized due to the virus rose by two to 546. Statewide, COVID-19 patients account for 47.8-percent of I.C.U. beds. The availability rate is 18.7-percent. Across the Black Hills healthcare system, 8-percent of I.C.U. beds are available, with COVID-19 patients accounting for 40.5-percent of them.

Across West River counties, there were 230 new cases reported.

Pennington County had the most with 66 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 8,670. Of those, 1,919 remain active.

Lawrence County added 26 new cases for a total of 2,035 and 423 active.

In Meade County, there were 16 new cases, sending the cumulative total to 1,753. Of those, 364 remain active.

Other new cases across West River include 51 in Dewey, 27 in Ziebach, 11 in Butte, 9 in Oglala Lakota, 5 in Jackson, 4 each in Haakon and Todd, 3 in Corson, 2 each in Fall River, Gregory and Mellette, and one each in Harding and Tripp.
