PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 1,173 new cases of COVID-19 in their weekly report – up from last week’s 963.
Active cases have also increased after seeing several weeks of decline. Active cases rose from 644 last week to 753 this week.
The number of people hospitalized decreased from 99 last week to 85 this week.
A dozen new deaths among cases were reported. The new deaths send the state’s death toll to 3,014. Of the new deaths, there was one each out of Pennington and Meade counties.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 123 new cases, Meade County added 46 new cases and Lawrence County had 16.
Elsewhere, there were 40 new cases in Oglala Lakota County, 14 in Custer, 13 in Butte and 11 out of Fall River County.
