Health officials report another 323 new COVID-19 cases Friday

STURGIS, S.D. – It was another day of high numbers as the Department of Health reported 323 new cases of COVID-19 across the state.

The latest total follows 343 cases reported Thursday, which included some missed numbers due to a reporting problem earlier in the week.

Of the 323 new cases today, 120 of them are out of the Black Hills area.

Pennington County saw the most with 73 new positive tests for COVID-19. That sends Pennington County’s cumulative total to 1,284 and of those, 345 remain active cases. The active number of cases is up 56 today in Pennington.

Lawrence County reported the second most new cases with 19, sending the county’s total to 190 with 109 active cases. The active caseload is up twelve  Friday in Lawrence.

Meade County added an additional 16 new COVID-19 cases Friday, sending their cumulative total to 261 with 140 active cases. The active number of  cases is up 7 today.

Elsewhere, Custer County added 6 new cases and Butte and Oglala Lakota County each added 3 new positive tests.

The statewide total of active cases soared 182 today to 2,182. The number of hospitalizations also increased for the third day in a row to 80. Hospitalizations are up five from yesterday and up 22 over the past two days.

There were also three new COVID-19 related deaths reported Friday. The new deaths were listed in the 30-39, 50-59 and 80+ age ranges. The new deaths were reported in Clay County, Fall River County and Hughes County. It is the first COVID-19-related death reported out of Fall River County.

Health officials say there were a total of 1,657 tests conducted over the latest 24-hour reporting period.
