Health officials report four new deaths and 140 new COVID-19 cases Sunday

PIERRE, S.D. – Four new deaths were reported in Sunday’s COVID-19 update from the South Dakota Department of Health.

The new deaths raise the state’s death toll to 1,863 since the pandemic began.

New cases today totaled 140 with 33 of them considered probable.

Active cases decreased by another 31 Sunday to 1,966.

The number of people hospitalized because of the virus dropped five Sunday to an even 90.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 19 new cases, with 2 of them considered as probable. The cumulative total in Pennington County is 12,746 with 229 active cases.

Lawrence County added 3 new cases Sunday for a total of 2,804. Active cases in the county are down to 27.

In Meade County, one case was reported. The cumulative total in Meade County is 2,558 and there are 51 active cases.

Elsewhere across the Black Hills there was one new, confirmed cases in Custer County and one probable case each in Fall River and Oglala Lakota.

There were 441 new persons tested reported on Sunday. Sunday’s new person-tested positivity rate is 31.7%.
