Health officials report slight increase in number of new COVID-19 cases in weekly report

PIERRE, S.D. – The number of new COVID-19 cases and the number of virus-related hospitalizations increased this week according to the state Department of Health.

In their weekly COVID report, health officials listed 996 new cases this past week with forty new hospitalizations. The total number of people hospitalized due to the virus was 75 – up a couple from last week.

There were eight new deaths among cases reported, sending the state’s death toll to 3,175.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported the most new cases this week West River with 106 being reported.

Lawrence County added 13 new cases while Meade County had 20.

Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County showed 48 cases this past week, Custer County had 8, Fall River County added 7 and Butte County reported 4.
