STURGIS, SD — Bricon Herren’s inside the park HR in the bottom of the fourth inning helped the Sturgis Scooper baseball team defeat the Hot Springs Bison 16-8 on Monday night at Strong Field.
Sturgis led 11-2 after one inning and looked to be in complete control of the game. The Bison had other ideas and plated five runs in the top of the third inning to cut into the Scooper lead. Sturgis led 13-7 after three innings.
Beau Peters came in on relief for Jack Knutson and shut down the Hot Springs offense with pinpoint pitching in the final two innings to secure the Sturgis win.
The Scoopers (2-3) finished with 12 hits and were led by Herren, who went 3-for-3 at the dish with four RBIs. Knutson got the win and Peters earned the save.
Hot Springs was led by River Lacina, who had three of the Bison’s six hits for the game. Nick Cruz took the loss for Hot Springs, who fell to 1-6 on the season.
Sturgis is in action next on Wednesday night at McKeague Field in Rapid City where they take on the Stevens Raiders at 5pm.
In other baseball action Monday, Douglas edged out Rapid City Central in a high scoring affair 12-11.
