RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rodeo athletes got their turn in the ring Sunday for the Wrangler 20X High School Rodeo Showcase at the Black Hills Stock Show.
Sturgis senior Landry Haugen claimed Sunday’s gold buckle in the barrel racing with a 13.575-second ride.
Another Sturgis athlete, Kashton Ford, claimed a second consecutive 20X title repeating as bareback champion, with a 74 point ride.
In goat tying, Michaela McCormick of Salem, edged out Brylee Grubb of Spearfish. McCormick caught and tied her goat in 8.58 seconds, just ahead of Grubb’s 8.69-second run.
In pole bending, Dupree’s Kennedy McLellan scored first with a 20.05 seconds.
Other Sunday winners included Onida’s Taylor Burgee in breakaway roping, Hermosa’s Tegan Fite topped the tie-down roping field with a 10.5-second finish, Hartford’s Jesse Kline won bull riding with 66 points and the duo of Jadon Jensen and Jet Jensen from Belle Fourche captured the team roping gold buckles with a time of 8.49 seconds.
Taten Hill of White River recorded the only qualified run in steer wrestling at 25.01 seconds, and there were no qualified runs in saddle bronc riding.
