High winds lead to traveling problems for high profile vehicles

STURGIS, S.D. – The gusty winds Wednesday wreaked havoc with travelers, but particularly those with high profile vehicles.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s office says East Highway 44 near Farmingdale was blocked for a while today after a home being transported blew off the trailer.

It took crews over an hour to get the road back open.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol was also busy, responding to trucks being blown over. The patrol says very high winds from Rapid City to Wall resulted in at least three accidents involving high profile vehicles. One was a camper being pulled by a pickup truck that got blown over.

The South Dakota D-O-T posted a No Travel Advisory for high profile vehicles due to the winds.

Blowing snow was also making visibility poor in open areas of western South Dakota.
