Highway Patrol investigating crash that killed one person in Draper

DRAPER, S.D. –  One man died early Friday morning in a one-vehicle crash in Draper.

The name of the person involved is not being released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 2020 GMC Equinox was northbound on 279th Avenue when it went through the intersection of South Dakota Highway 248 and Cementery Road. The vehicle hit a stop sign, went off the roadway and struck a grain bin loaded with corn. Both the vehicle and corn started on fire.

The 51-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use is under investigation.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
