Hill City’s Luke Rupert wins Heartland Preview Cross Country Race in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In Cross Country action Saturday, Luke Rupert of Hill City captured the boys race of the Heartland Preview in Sioux Falls.

Rupert finished in a time of 15:16.07. Sean Fries of Minnetonka, MN was second and Isaac Ochoa of Norfolk was third and Grady Loos of Rapid City Stevens placed fourth.

Top placing Sturgis Scooper was Ty Petrocco finishing in tenth.

Winning the team title was Minnetonka with Bismarck in second. The Scoopers placed 14th.

In the girls race, Libby Castelli of Sioux Falls O”Gorman won the race in a time of 17:31.08. Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish was second and Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern was third. Top placing Scooper was Iris Zylstra in 36th.

Winning the girls team title was Sioux Falls Christian with Harrisburg in second and Bismarck in third. Sturgis placed tenth.

Taycie Matthews of the University of West Alabama won her second consecutive college national championship in barrel racing at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Matthews was back riding Fame Fire Rocks (PopRocks) after an eight-month layoff and didn’t miss a beat. She won three of four rounds and finished second in the other while leading her school to the women’s team championship.
