Hospitalizations back up over 100 as 200 new COVID-19 cases reported Friday

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials report hospitalizations due to COVID-19 were back up over 100 today.

The number of people receiving treatment totaled 103 Friday with 19 people currently in the I.C.U. and 9 people statewide on ventilators.

Despite the increased hospitalizations, no new deaths were reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 1,938.

New COVID-19 cases today totaled 200 with 42 of them listed as probable.

Active cases were down by 70 to 2,417.

Pennington County had 16 new cases Friday for a cumulative total of 13,267 since the pandemic began.

Meade County added 2 new cases and Lawrence County saw an additional three new cases.

Elsewhere across the Black Hills region, Custer County reported 6 new cases and Oglala Lakota County had three.
