Hospitalizations drop for a second day, one new death reported in Friday COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – There were 57 new cases of COVID-19 according to the Department of Health in their Friday report.

One new death was also reported out of Pennington County, where COVID-19 related deaths now total 26.

Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported two new cases, Meade County had one and Butte County also added a new case.

Pennington County has 133 active cases, down six from Thursday. Meade County has 9 active cases and Butte County is reporting 3 active cases.

The statewide number of active cases is up 9 today to 817, but the number of hospitalizations fell for a second day. Current hospitalizations in South Dakota are at the lowest rates since mid-April. After falling to 50 on Thursday, the number of South Dakotans currently in the hospital for COVID-19 is down to 45.

A total of 954 new test results were reported on Friday.
