VERMILLION, S.D. – The Hot Springs Bison are on top of the Class 11B Football World as they beat Elk Point Jefferson in the championship game at Vermillion today.
The Bison scored a touchdown in the first and second quarter and held on to beat the Huskies 13-7.
The Bison’s first touchdown came after a 32-yard run by Camron Maciejewski with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter. It followed an opening drive score for Elk Point Jefferson in which Quarterback Jason Gale ran for a 2 yard score.
That would be the lone score for the Huskies, however, as Hot Springs took a lead they would not relinquish in the second quarter on a Colin Iverson pass to Braden Petersen. That 79-yard pass play made it 13-7 after the Bison failed to convert on a 2 point conversion.
The Bison defense was stellar in the second half, keeping the Huskies scoreless. They put the game away on an interception on a late Elk Point Jefferson drive.
Maciejewski was named the Joe Robbie Most Valuable Player. Petersen was named Most Outstanding Back and Caleb Rickenbach was named Most Outstanding Lineman.
