PIERRE, SD – South Dakota legislators passed bills this session that will use two hundred million dollars for loans and grants for housing infrastructure.
Representative Roger Chase of Huron says they have been getting interest from around the state. “There are some thoughts that we should do another summer study and wait another year before implementation,” he shared.  “But from what we heard last summer, we can’t wait. This is an issue that we need to get going on and hopefully see things happening this year.”
Chase says he expects the program will be tweaked from year to year. “Nothing is perfect. But I think we’ve got something we can work with and that will function. This $200 million infrastructure bill is beneficial towards getting things in place.”
Chase chaired the summer study last year that came up with many of the bills that were introduced this year. He says they need to get the programs implemented. “People are contacting us and want details. There’s been a lot of interest from all over the state.”
Chase says the rules for the various loan and grant programs will have to be written and approved between now and July first.
