RAPID CITY, S.D. – It was hot enough to not only cook an egg on the sidewalk, it was hot enough Tuesday to shatter high records.
The National Weather Service says the Rapid City Airport recorded a new record high temperature for July 27.
The Tuesday high of 107 broke the old record of 104 set in 1987.
A record high was also recorded in Rapid City. The 106 degree high shattered the old record of 101 set back in 1931.
Buffalo, South Dakota, however, may have beaten everyone. The weather service says an official temperature reading there hit 111 degrees Tuesday.
Not to be outdone, Philip, Bridger and Faith all reported 110 degrees.
Wasta, Ralph and Devil’s Tower all recorded 108 and Sturgis and Piedmont each recorded a 107 Tuesday.
Wednesday will again see temperatures around the 100-degree mark, but a cold front coming in Wednesday night should knock temperatures back down into the 80’s for Thursday and Friday.
A chance of thunderstorms is also in the forecast for the end of the work week.
