Hundreds of area athletes compete at Rapid City Invitational Tuesday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The weather was better the second time around for the postponed Rapid City Invitational Track and Field Meet Tuesday, as hundreds of area athletes competed at O’Harra Stadium.

In girls events:

Jayda McNabb of Rapid City Stevens captured both the 100 and 200 meter dash with Carsyn Mettler of Rapid City Stevens winning the 400-meters. Winning the 800 meters was Hailey Uhre of Stevens and Paige Willerd of Sturgis won the 1,600 meters. Her Sturgis teammate, Iris Zylstra captured second. Alison Hayes of Belle Fourche won the 3,200 meters.

In the hurdles, Baylee Van Zee of Stevens won the 100 meters and Jaylen Nachtigall of Hot Springs won the 300 meters.

In the relay races, Rapid City Central won the 4×100, the 4×200, 4×400 meters and the 1,600 meter sprint medley. Belle Fourche won the 4×800 meter relay.

In field events, Matayah Yellow Mule of RC Central won the high jump, Rachel Cammack of Sturgis won the Pole Vault, Tori Alstiel of Rapid City Christian won the long jump, Megan Baloun of Stevens captured the triple jump, Kellyn Kortemeyer of Custer won the shot put and discus and Laney Carlin of Custer won the javelin throw.

In boys events:

Aiden Giffin of Belle Fourche won the 100 meters with Ridge Inhofer of Sturgis placing second. Giffin also won the 200 meters. Blake Boyster of Custer won the 400 meters, Simeon Birnbaum of Stevens captured the 800 meters, Gage Dietterle of RC Central took the 1,600 meters and Sturgis Scooper Deron Graf won the 3,200 meters.

In the hurdles, Tanner Lunders of Stevens won both the 110 and 300 meters with Brodie Eisenbraun of Sturgis finishing second in both races.

In the relay races, Rapid City Central won the 4×100 meters, Custer claimed the 4×200, Hot Springs won the 4×400 meters, St Thomas More took first in the 4×800 and Lakota Tech won the 1,600 meter spring medley.

In field events, Keegan Hett of Harding County won the high jump, Summer Griffin of RC Central won the pole vault, Nathan Bender of Stevens had the top jump in the long jump, James Pierce of Lead-Deadwood claimed the triple jump, Liam Porter of RC Central had the longest throw in the shot put, Marcus Harkless of Hot Springs claimed the discus and Drake Hassett of RC Central won the javelin throw.
