Hunting apparel could go pink in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D.  — Hunters of big game in South Dakota might soon have a new slogan.

Think pink.

State lawmakers certainly are.

The House of Representatives was nearly unanimous in its support Wednesday for legislation that would add fluorescent pink to blaze orange as legal colors for hunting garments in the field.

The 68-1 vote sends HB1228 to the Senate, where Republican Arch Beal is lead sponsor.

His daughter, Republican Rep. Jessica Bahmuller, is the proposal’s prime sponsor.

Blaze orange garments currently are required for hunting big game, other than mountain lions and turkeys. It’s also required while hunting for upland birds.
