MANDAN, N.D. – The fall schedule came to a close on Saturday evening for the Black Hills State University men’s and women’s rodeo team at the inaugural Mystics Stampede Rodeo at Dale Pahlke Arena.
With the help of two event wins, including Haley Husted in goat tying and Cashae McGee in the all-around, the women’s team recorded a second place finish with 300 points, just ten shy of Dickinson State University who claimed top honors. The men’s program recorded a seventh place finish, highlighted by a third place finish by Luke Mavity in team roping.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN’S RODEO
- In the steer wrestling event, Swade Reis was able to round out the fall with a ninth place finish posting a time of 6.8 seconds on only the long go.
- Pairing up with Dawson Davis of Iowa Central Community College, Luke Mavity secured a third place finish in team roping as the cowboys posted a time of 23.8 seconds on two go arounds. The duo was one of just four teams to post a time in both the long go and short go, clocking times of 10.7 seconds and 13.1 seconds respectively. Additionally, Jess Harper earned a tenth place finish in the event for BHSU as he paired up with Colton Zubach of Dickinson State University, only notching a time of 13.4 seconds on the long go.

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN’S RODEO
- The Black Hills State duo of Cashae McGee and Raylee Fagerhaug took home first and second place in the women’s all-around competition, tallying 150 and 110 points respectively. McGee earned her points with 100 coming in goat tying and 50 in barrel racing, while Fagerhaug earned 100 points in barrel racing and ten in goat tying.
- The Yellow Jacket cowgirls dominated in the goat tying competition with four place finishers in the top-10, including the event champion, Haley Husted. Husted earned the win with a time of 14.3 seconds on two go arounds, posting times of 6.9 seconds on the long go and 7.4 seconds in the short go. Notching third place in the event was McGee who recorded a time of 15.2 seconds on two go arounds, including a time of 7.5 seconds in the long go and 7.7 seconds in the short go. Kensey Homelvig rounded out the top-5 with a time of 15.6 seconds on two go arounds, clocking times of 7.6 seconds in the long go and 8.0 seconds on the short go. The final BHSU athlete in the event was Fagerhaug who collected a ninth place finish with a time of 7.7 seconds on just the long go.
- The trio of Linley Schmitz, Emma Ohm, and Briley Anderson recorded top-10 finishes in breakaway roping for BHSU this weekend, collecting finishes of seventh place, ninth place, and a tie for tenth place. Schmitz notched a time of 15.6 seconds on two go arounds with times of 2.9 seconds on the short go and 12.7 seconds on the long go. Ohm and Anderson were only able to clock times on the long go, with times of 2.7 and 2.8 seconds respectively.
- Fagerhaug led the trio of Black Hills State barrel racers to top-10 finishes at Dale Pahlke Arena with a third place finish, posting a time of 34.24 seconds on two go arounds with times of 17.02 seconds on the long go and 17.22 seconds on the short go. McGee was less than half a second behind in fifth place with a time of 34.56 seconds on two go arounds, clocking times of 17.36 seconds on the long go and 17.20 seconds on the short go. Rounding out the group was Jayda Reinert who was ninth place with a time of 34.95 seconds on two go arounds, notching times of 17.42 seconds on the long go and 17.53 seconds on the short go.
