Icy roads lead to accidents in Rapid City area on Thanksgiving

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A light freezing mist and drizzle led to some icy roads in the Rapid City area on Thanksgiving day, causing several accidents.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says one of their troopers was involved in a crash on I-90.

The trooper was assisting with a vehicle that had slid off the road when it was struck by another vehicle that had apparently lost control on the icy road.

The trooper was not hurt.

The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office also posted that Highway 79 was very slick, and said they were dispatched to a pickup that had rolled over on the highway.

“Slow down and exercise caution if you must travel this afternoon/evening,” the city said in a Tweet.

The Rapid City Police Department issued a motorist advisory to drive with caution and slow down.
