PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health says 1,179 COVID-19 tests were conducted Thursday, resulting in one of the state’s largest increases to date in positive cases.
In its Friday report, the department reported 239 new cases. The new cases included one positive test in Meade County and one positive test in Pennington County.
Meade County, with two new cases this week, now has two active cases. Pennington County now has seven active cases.
Other new cases in the state overnight included 203 in Minnehaha County, 14 in Brown, 9 in Lincoln, 3 in Moody, 2 in Union and one each in Clark, Hughes, Lake and Todd counties.
State epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton says there are now 1,044 active cases in the state – up from Thursday’s 846.
There were 11 new hospitalizations today for a total of 76.
Deaths from the virus remain at 31, with no new deaths reported on Friday.
