Award winning Percheron Hitch returns to Rodeo Rapid City

RAPID CITY, SD -  They’re big and beautiful.  And yeah, they smell good too.

So just what does a 2,200 pound horse and a .3 ounce vial of essential oils have in common? More than you might think. 

The Young Living Essential Oils Percherons will be on display at The Monument (formerly the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center) in the “Rodeo Zone,” January 31 – February 8th and located in the Ice Arena. from 10:00am to 7:00pm.   

This beautiful team of horses is managed and driven by driven by Jason Goodman, Percheron Draft Horse Program Manager, Mona, UT.  He will divide his time between the public display that runs from 10:00am to 7:00pm in the Rodeo Zone and in the Barnett Rodeo Arena where the audience can see the horses and driver in action.

​“We drive a six-horse hitch of Percheron geldings that range in age from 7 to 11 years of age,” shares Goodman.  “ They average 18 hands in height and weigh approximately 2,000 pounds each.  The group of horses are Tuff and Mick Jagger, (the wheel team) Huey and Bode, (swing team) Rocket and Cyclone, (lead team) and  Preacher(the spare tire).”  He adds, “We are always on the look-out for another good young gelding to add to our ‘band of brothers’.”

​ The Young Living Percheron Hitch will be traveling from their home in Utah  Loading up two semi’s, eight Percherons and five team members, the entourage will make its way across multiple states to arrive in Rapid City in time for Rodeo Rapid City and the Black Hills Stock Show.

​Young Living Essential Oils are grown, processed and packaged in Utah.  The company specializes in lavender blends used in developing 100 varieties.  Along with marketing to consumers, the business  also includes an animal product line of calming and anti-inflammatory oils – used on the Percherons when needed – and available at retail outlets and online.
