A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on February 7, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, SD, with refreshments before traveling for the inurnment at Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00pm.

Frank, master of a unique sense of humor, was born in Longview, Washington, July 5, 1930, the son of Frank and Verna Bosworth. He was raised in Raleigh, ND, and graduated from Flasher High School, valedictorian in 1948. He attended Carroll College in Helena, MT, until he joined the Air Force and was called to active duty, from which he was honorably discharged. After his service, he returned home and finished his education at North Dakota State University, graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering. While attending school, Frank met his tennis and life partner, Rita Slobojan. They married in 1957 in Mohall, ND. They started their family in San Mateo, CA, where they became 49ers fans. Frank went on to get his Masters of Structural Engineering at Washington State University. He started and finished his career as a professor in the Civil Engineering Department at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Frank was a professor for 33 years, teaching numerous students, including several of his own children.

In addition to enjoying time with his family, Frank spent his time riding bike, fishing, hunting and horseback riding at the family cabin in Vanocker Canyon and at his ranch in Belle Fourche. One of Frank’s passions was creating complex wood art called Intarsia. In his life, Frank completed roughly 10 additions to his cabin and home, not to mention the numerous house projects he worked on with his children. His most cherished building materials were scrap wood and used nails. Along with his landscaping, he planted roughly 10 trees per year, including a tree for each of his grandchildren. Frank raised his eight children on day-old donuts, venison, and oatmeal. His homemade cider and wine were a family favorite and the cider recipe is still a family secret.

Frank is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita Bosworth, Belle Fourche, SD; his eight extraordinary children, Mary Bosworth (Don Peterson), Keystone, SD, Dean Bosworth (Paula Trautner), Silverton, CO, Jane (Chris) Moffitt, Fair Oaks, CA, Paul (Cyndee) Bosworth, Spearfish, SD, Thomas Bosworth, Rapid City, SD, Susan Bosworth, Belle Fourche, SD, Jim Bosworth (Jack Wilson), Richmond, IL, Jon (Laura) Bosworth, Spearfish, SD; his seven grandchildren, Joe (Trisha) Reynolds, Shawn (Steph) Reynolds, Sarah Moffitt, Kai Bosworth, Kelsey (Ryan) Bonavida, Leela Bosworth, Jude Bosworth; three great-grandchildren, Dakota Reynolds, Declan Reynolds, Juliet Reynolds and two additional on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Roger (1979) and Don (2008).

There was never a moment in Frank’s life that a four-legged friend wasn’t by his side.

The family requests, in leu of flowers, that donations be gifted to the Western Hills Humane Society and/or Monument Health Homecare and Hospice. We’d like to thank all those in the medical field and hospice that touched Frank and his family’s lives in deep meaningful ways!
