Agency deferring interest payments until December

Jerry Oster, WNAX - August 10, 2020

PIERRE, SD - The Risk Management Agency of USDA has extended the deadline for premium and administrative fee payments on crop insurance.

Crop Insurance Agent Dave Hubbs says it gives farmers more time to get payments in without picking up interest fees by moving the deadline back.

“They are extending interest charges. What that means for our customers, mostly in corn, soybean and wheat, is that they now have until December 1 before any interest attaches.”

He says RMA extended the deadline because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The weather this year isn’t as wet as it was last year and Hubbs is hopeful farmers will be able to get their crops harvested on time.

RMA advises farmers to contact their crop insurance agents on any questions they have about their policies and requirements.
