Health officials report 320 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, six new deaths

STURGIS, S.D. - South Dakota saw 320 new COVID-19 cases Saturday and the number of hospitalizations jumped over 100 in the latest report from the Department of Health.
Health officials say the number of people hospitalized due to the virus increased by 13 today to 109.

Six people have also died. Officials say Meade County has recorded its second COVID-19 related death. Minnehaha reported 2 new deaths today and one death each was reported in Custer, Grant and Oglala Lakota counties. The new deaths were listed as five men and one woman. One additional death has been listed in the 50-59 age range, one in the 60-69 age range, two in the 70-79 age range and two in the 80+ age group.

West River overall had 69 of the 320 cases. There were 251 East River.

Around the Black Hills area, Pennington County had the most with 35 new cases. The active number of cases, however, is down 4 today to 325.

Meade County reported 7 new cases Saturday, sending the cumulative total to 378 with 81 active cases. The active cases are down 6 today in Meade County.

Lawrence County added 5 new cases, sending the total to 283 and 69 of them remain active.

The active cases are up one today in Lawrence.

Other new cases around the Black Hills area include 2 in Oglala Lakota and one each in Butte,Custer and Fall River counties.

The statewide number of active cases remained at 2,515 Saturday.

There was 1,646 new persons tested reported on Saturday.
