Russell Gilbert Shoun

Russell Gilbert Shoun

Russell Gilbert Shoun

- September 22, 2020

Russell Gilbert Shoun was born on July 1, 1947 in Sturgis, South Dakota to Orville and Leona (Moreland) Shoun. He was the fifth of eleven children.

Russell lived and attended grade school in Red Owl, South Dakota. He then attended Sturgis High School and graduated in 1967. From 1968-1974 he was in the South Dakota National Guard. During his time in the guards he was a sharpshooter and helped build Spearfish Canyon Road, and he also helped out with the flood of 1972.

In 1969, he met the love of his life Delila Ness. They were married on July 3, 1971 at Bear Butte Catholic Church. To this union five children were born: Darcy, Keri, Derek, Deza, and Kasey.

Russell worked at Farmers Feed and Seed, Sturgis Tractor, and numerous other jobs until he opened up his own business, Shoun’s Auto; where he worked on cars, lawn mowers, and tinkered with guns up until his death. Russell enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time with family, and picking on his grandchildren; but he always made sure there was plenty of candy in the candy dish for them.

Russell passed away on September 18, 2020 at home with his wife and oldest daughter present.

He was preceded in death by his unborn child, parents, Orville and Leona Shoun, aunts, uncles, a brother in law, one nephew, and one niece.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years; Delila Shoun, children Darcy (John) Dvorak, Keri (Tim) Fischer, Derek (Andrea) Shoun, Deza (Steve) Gillespie, and Kasey (Amanda) Shoun. His twelve grandchildren; Dominic, Sierra, and Reace Fischer, Austin and Zachary Shoun, Paige and Cameron Gillespie, and Gage, Breanna, Gavin, Maddison, and MaKayla Shoun. Siblings Gwen (Merlin) Ehlers, Bob (Syd) Shoun, Lori (Ed) Weyer, Delbert Shoun, Betty (Don) Engstrom, Debbie (Larry) Elsbury, Peggy Moeller, John (Rose) Shoun, Kim Shoun, and Liza (Star) Mills. As well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday September 26, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the Sturgis City Park, for family and friends.

Condolences can be sent in care of Delila Shoun to 2608 Elk Rd. Sturgis, South Dakota.
