South Dakota health officials report 806 new COVID-19 cases Saturday, along with 8 new deaths

STURGIS, S.D. – South Dakota Health officials reported 806 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday and 8 new COVID-19 related deaths were added.

The eight new deaths included four men and four women. One death was listed in the 50-59 age range, two in the 70-79 age range and five victims listed in the 80-plus age range. The new deaths were listed in the Day, Douglas, Kingsbury, Lincoln and Minnehaha County. Lincoln had two of the deaths, Minnehaha had three. There have now been 92 total deaths in October, the deadliest month of the pandemic so far.

Active cases rose 456 today to a new high of 7,768. Hospitalizations went down 4 to 295.

Across West River, there were 131 new cases with Pennington County accounting for the most.

Pennington had 36 new cases, sending their total to 3,504. There are 789 active cases.

Oglala Lakota County had the second highest total, as 26 new cases were reported. Oglala Lakota has been hard hit this week, with 105 new cases reported since Tuesday.

Lawrence County added 11 new cases Saturday, sending their total to 641 with 152 active. Meade County added 7 new cases today, sending their total to 780 with 158 remaining active.

Other new cases across West River include 11 in Todd, 6 in Custer, 5 in Fall River, 4 each in Butte, Corson and Tripp, 3 each in Haakon and Stanley, 2 each in Dewey, Jones, Gregory and Bennett and one each in Harding, Lyman and Mellette counties.
