Crop Report: S.D. Soybean Harvest Nears Completion

UNDATED - For the week ending Sunday, soybean harvest neared completion following a mostly dry week, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Corn harvest remained behind average. In field dry down was an issue in some parts of South Dakota. Temperatures were near normal for most of the State. However, the coldest air of the season was felt in many locations late in the week, as morning lows fell into the teens and 20s. There were 6.1 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 15 percent very short, 22 short, 61 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 23 percent very short, 27 short, 49 adequate, and 1 surplus.

Corn condition rated 8 percent very poor, 14 poor, 35 fair, 38 good, and 5 excellent. Corn harvested was 35 percent, well behind 60 last year and 66 for the five-year average.

Soybeans harvested was 96 percent, near 94 last year and 95 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 36 percent very poor, 17 poor, 30 fair, 16 good, and 1 excellent. Winter wheat emerged was 91 percent, near 88 last year, and well ahead of 71 average.

Sorghum condition rated 17 percent very poor, 22 poor, 38 fair, 23 good, and 0 excellent. Sorghum mature was 99 percent, near 100 last year, and 97 average. Harvested was 58 percent, well behind 89 last year and 78 average.

Sunflower condition rated 3 percent very poor, 22 poor, 44 fair, 25 good, and 6 excellent. Sunflowers harvested was 51 percent, well behind 71 last year, and behind 59 average.

Pasture and range condition rated 25 percent very poor, 25 poor, 27 fair, 23 good, and 0 excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 21 percent very short, 28 short, 50 adequate, and 1 surplus.
