Rapid City Central edges Sturgis in competitive wrestling dual

RAPID CITY, S.D. - As expected, Rapid City Central and Sturgis engaged in a very competitive wrestling dual Thursday night.

The dual started with Steven Permann of Sturgis losing to Cael Larson in the 106 pound match. Kelton Olson would even things up for Sturgis as he defeated Jacob Cordero in just 16 seconds in the 113 pound matchup.

Shae Owens then defeated Brendan Thompson in the 120 pound match, and Sturgis led 12-6.

Central picked up a win in the 126 pound match as Kadyn Kraye defeated Logan Lemmel. Brett Konst of Sturgis then defeated T.J. Morrison at 132 and Central's Sean Mitchell defeated Reese Jacobs at 138 pounds.

Down 12-17, Sturgis got a win by Wren Jacobs at 145 pounds and Bailey Brengle won at 153 pounds with a 13-5 decision over Tanner Skaare.

The Scoopers led 22-17 after Jake Sailor defeated Wyatt Jungclaus at 160 pounds, when Central got a win from Taylor Coffield at 170 pounds.

Bridger Kraye followed that up for Central with a pin of Kody Cox at 182.Nolan Smith then pinned Tice McVay at 195 pounds.

Joel Carpenter cut into the Central lead with a pin over Uriah LaRouche at 220 pounds, but Central got the edge as Ty Olson won at 285 over Clayton Smith.

Central won by a final score of 38-28.

In other wrestling action Thursday night, Rapid City Stevens cruised past Douglas 77-3.

Stevens only dropped one match where the Patriots' William George scored a 1-0 decision over Dominik Colicheski.
