SD Mines Hosts 93 Employers for Spring Career Fair

News Staff - February 13, 2018

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology will host 93 employers for the annual spring Career Fair. The fair will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the King Center in the Goodell Gym. The event is open to Mines students and alumni only, not the general public. But the media is invited to attend.

For Mines students, navigating the large fair with so many employers in a short period of time can be daunting. Fortunately, students can now use the SD Mines Career Fair app which includes a list of employers, majors of interest, positions, information sessions, and a map of the fair booths.

Over 1,000 Mines students are expected to attend, networking with employers including Bobcat, Cargill, Caterpillar, Garmin, Kiewit, Nucor and Union Pacific as well as regional companies and engineering firms. In all, 93 employers from 18 states, including 41 exhibitors from South Dakota, will be on hand to visit with Mines students. South Dakota employers include Black Hills Corporation, Daktronics, Raven Industries, Regional Health, RESPEC, Sanford Health, and Vishay. SD Mines plays an important role in helping the state meet its workforce needs. In the last five years, 272 graduates accepted jobs with 142 employers in 28 South Dakota communities. Ten of the employers will be participating in their first career fair at Mines. In addition, many of the employers are staying to conduct next-day interviews.

SD Mines graduates continue to be in demand, with 77 percent landing at least one paid internship before graduation, a 96 percent job placement rate and an average starting salary of $63,000.
