Report: Wyoming coal companies add 5 full-time jobs

The Associated Press - March 29, 2018

CASPER, Wyo. - A state report has found that Wyoming coal companies added five full-time jobs last year following the two-year downturn where more than 900 workers lost their jobs.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the jobs number reflects those employed directly by coal companies. The Wyoming State Mine Inspector's annual report shows that an additional 133 contract workers were called in for reclamation jobs or blasting work last year.

The report indicates that the industry is no longer losing jobs and production has improved.

Wyoming Mining Association executive director Travis Deti says the jobs number shows that the industry has stabilized.

The association's count last year found that about 300 industry jobs have returned since the downturn. The group's number is unclear on how many were contract jobs or part time.
