Former Scooper Lynsey Prosser to play for USA D-2 Basketball

Augustana Athletic Release - July 29, 2018

LAKE MARY, FL -- Lynsey Prosser, a senior guard on the Augustana women's basketball team and former Sturgis Scooper, has been selected to play for the USA D-2 women's basketball team, Director of USA Sports Tours and Events Ron Smith announced. The USA women's basketball squad is made up of invited NCAA Division II basketball student-athletes from throughout the United States, with each member of the unit having been recognized at the national, regional and conference levels.

"This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from some of the best colleges and universities from across the United States," Smith said. "We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing NCAA Division II basketball. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom and represent everything good that the NCAA Division II institutions have to offer."

Prosser started 32 of 33 games during her junior campaign for the Vikings, averaging 7.8 points-per-game and was second on the team with 110 assists. The Sturgis, South Dakota native scored a season-high 21 points in the second round of the NCAA Tournament vs. Northern State, drilling a season-high five triples in that contest. Prosser earned All-Academic NSIC honors last season and helped the Vikings win a share of the regular season NSIC championship for the first time in program history and their second ever NSIC Tournament championship. She assisted Augustana in winning 29 games and advancing to the sweet-16 round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

The USA D-2 Women's Basketball team travels to Brazil later this summer, tipping off their 2018 tour in Orlando, Florida on July 30 with the tour wrapping up on August 8. After the team orientation in Orlando, the USA Women's Basketball squad departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil and participates in their first games on August 1.

"Having the opportunity to play in Brazil for the USA D-2 women's basketball team has been pretty surreal," Prosser said. "It hasn't really sunk in yet. It's just such a special opportunity to be able to travel to another country and play basketball alongside some really talented division II student-athletes, many of which I have played against during my time at Augustana," Prosser said.

Following their contests on August 1, USA women's basketball takes on the U22 Club Team from the city of Jundiai in the state of Sao Paulo. Next, USA basketball heads to Rio de Janeiro where the team will have time on Copacabana Beach and will tour the world famous Christ the redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain. On August 4, competition resumes at Mangueira Basquete Clube of Rio and concludes on August 6 when the women take on Fluminense (Rio).

While in Brazil USA women's basketball will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.

"I think this trip will be challenging, but also rewarding, and will be a great way to kick off my senior year at Augustana. I'm so grateful and honored to have this experience right in front of me and really thankful for the support of my parents, coaches and teammates," Prosser said.
